Medicines have benefits and some have risks. Always read the label and use only as directed. If symptoms persist or you have side effects see your health professional. Brands and generics both contain the same active ingredient(s) and are medically equivalent. Some brands are marketed under different names by the same manufacturer depending on the country of origin. Images are provided as a reference only, the received medicine may vary in packaging, color, pill shape, etc, from one batch to the next. For an item marked "generic" any quality brand may be sent, however you will always receive the active ingredients ordered in the strength(s) ordered.
Bepanthen is a cream with a wide range of uses, from preventing diaper rash to improving skin appearance. The active ingredient is pro-vitamin B5, an essential nutrient used to restore and maintain skin health, among other functions.
One of the most remarkable features of Bepanthen is its safety. There are no known side effects, drug interactions or dietary interactions. Rarely some individuals may experience allergic reactions to other ingredients in the cream, but this is very unlikely.
The Many Uses of Bepanthen
Bepanthen cream is a very versatile treatment. Though often marketed as a diaper rash treatment, people regularly use the product in other skin-care applications:
In essence, Bepanthen can be used to heal and restore any kind of mildly damaged or irritated skin. It has shown some promise in healing more serious injuries as well---such as diabetic ulcers---but it should not be used as a replacement for medical attention in these cases.
Bepanthen cream is as easy to use as it is safe:
As Bepanthen cream is absorbed into the skin it creates a protective, breathable barrier which inhibits contamination or further irritation. If the application area becomes wet this barrier may be washed off, so the cream should be reapplied.
Bepanthen's soothing effects are usually apparent just moments after application. It may take several days of treatment for a wound, rash or other injury to fully heal.
Warnings & Side Effects
As mentioned above, Bepanthen is remarkably safe. The most significant risk by far---though still very minimal---is that of an allergic reaction. Warning signs of an allergic reaction include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing; severe itching, rash or hives; severe confusion or unconsciousness. These symptoms often develop very rapidly and warrant emergency medical attention.
Using other skin products on areas treated with Bepanthen, such as makeup, sunblock, lotions or topical medications is also unlikely to prove harmful, but doing so may reduce the effectiveness of Bepanthen or vice versa. Check with a doctor or pharmacist before mixing Bepanthen with a medicated skin treatment if unsure of consequences.
